NuHealth's finasteride program is built around consistency and honest expectations. Every plan combines the medication, supervised provider care, and discreet ongoing support.

Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase Type II inhibitor. It blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the androgen responsible for shrinking hair follicles in androgenetic alopecia. By lowering DHT at the follicle, finasteride may slow hair loss and support regrowth in patients with active follicles.
Best for: Adult men with androgenetic alopecia and active follicles in the affected area.
What it is
FDA-approved oral finasteride 1 mg, the most-studied medication for pattern hair loss. NuHealth also offers a compounded topical option combining finasteride with minoxidil when your provider determines that fits.
Timeline
Months 1 to 3 are typically uneventful. Months 3 to 6 most patients describe slowed shedding. Months 6 to 12 is when new regrowth at active follicles, when it occurs, often becomes visible.
Monitoring
Structured check-ins to assess response and side effects, with direct provider messaging between visits. If side effects are limiting, your provider can adjust formulation, lower dose, or discontinue.
Safety: Most patients tolerate finasteride well. Sexual side effects (decreased libido, erectile changes) are the most-discussed risks. For most patients these resolve when the medication is stopped. A small subset describes persistent symptoms (PFS); your provider discusses this honestly before you start.

A 20-minute telehealth call with a board-certified provider. Cover your medical history, current medications, family pattern, and any concerns about side effects. No credit card required.

If finasteride is appropriate, your prescription ships from a state-licensed pharmacy in plain packaging. Topical compounded preparations are prepared by our 503A pharmacy partner.
Your provider walks through tradeoffs (systemic exposure, daily routine, side-effect profile) and recommends oral 1 mg, compounded topical with minoxidil, or a combination.

Three topics, in plain language. If you don’t see your question, the consultation is the place to ask it.
Yes. Finasteride 1 mg is the FDA-approved generic of Propecia. Same active ingredient, same manufacturing standards, lower cost.
Finasteride may slow hair loss and support regrowth at active follicles in genetically predisposed adults. It does not work for everyone, and it does not regrow hair on completely dormant follicles. Your provider helps assess fit at the consultation.
Most patients describe seeing slowed hair loss within 3 to 6 months. New regrowth at active follicles, when it occurs, often becomes visible 6 to 12 months in. Consistency matters. Daily use is required for ongoing effect.
Medication, provider review, follow-up check-ins, and direct provider messaging. Topical compounded formulations may be priced differently. Your provider walks you through everything at the consultation.
NuHealth doesn't currently bill insurance for the hair-and-skin program. The $35/month cash price is fully transparent. HSA and FSA are accepted where eligible.
Some patients experience decreased libido or erectile changes. For most, these resolve when the medication is stopped. A small subset of patients describe persistent symptoms (referred to as post-finasteride syndrome, or PFS). This is contested in medical literature but real to those affected. Your provider discusses your specific concerns at consultation.
Stopping the medication typically leads to gradual return of the prior hair-loss pattern over 6 to 12 months. Finasteride manages an ongoing condition rather than curing it.
