What is compounded semaglutide? In plain terms.

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist — a class of medication that works with your body’s natural appetite-regulation pathways. It signals fullness sooner, slows how quickly your stomach empties, and helps stabilize blood sugar between meals.

A “compounded” medication is one prepared by a state-licensed compounding pharmacy on a prescription-by-prescription basis. NuHealth’s compounded semaglutide is prepared by a 503A compounding pharmacy when your NuHealth provider determines that a personalized formulation fits your clinical situation. This per-patient framework is what allows ongoing compounding of semaglutide under current FDA rules.

Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved as a finished drug product. Your NuHealth provider will explain how this affects your treatment plan during your consultation.

How it works in the body

  1. Appetite signal

Acts on receptors that quiet hunger cues.

  2. Slowed gastric emptying

You stay fuller for longer between meals.

  3. Blood sugar stability

Helps level the glucose curve through the day.

How NuHealth’s semaglutide program works. Three steps, on your timeline.

  1. A laptop telehealth call from a quiet morning kitchen — the everyday rhythm of a NuHealth provider visit

    Free 20-minute consultation

A board-certified physician reviews your medical history, weight history, goals, and any medications or conditions that may affect candidacy. If you are not a candidate for a compounded semaglutide program, your provider will discuss alternatives. The consultation itself is free.

  2. A compounded semaglutide vial beside a lab requisition form — baseline labs before a provider confirms candidacy.

    Labs and provider assessment

Your provider orders baseline labs (typically metabolic panel, A1C, thyroid, and kidney function), reviews your results, and confirms whether a personalized compounded program is appropriate for your situation. If your provider authorizes treatment, your prescription is sent to our 503A compounding pharmacy partner.

  3. A patient at a sunlit window, mid-cycle on a NuHealth program — a quiet ongoing-care moment

    Ongoing supervision

Monthly check-ins with your provider. Quarterly labs to monitor how your body is responding. Your provider adjusts dose, slows titration, or recommends a different protocol entirely if side effects are limiting. You can message your provider directly between appointments.

Throughout, your treatment plan is the responsibility of your NuHealth provider — informed by your full medical history, labs, and response to treatment.

Who may be a candidate for compounded semaglutide? Honest about whether this fits you.

Compounded semaglutide may be appropriate for adults whose provider determines that the medication fits their clinical situation. Here is how candidacy is generally framed before your consultation.

May be appropriate for

  • Adults with a BMI of 27 or higher and at least one weight-related condition (high blood pressure, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, or similar)
  • Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher

Generally not appropriate for

  • Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • History of severe pancreatitis or severe gastroparesis
  • Active pregnancy, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy within the next 2 months
  • Known hypersensitivity to semaglutide or related ingredients

Your NuHealth provider makes the final candidacy determination after reviewing your complete medical history, current medications, and baseline labs.

What patients describe. In their first months.

Many patients describe a quieting of food noise — the persistent, low-level mental preoccupation with food and eating that makes changing habits so difficult. Individual response varies; your provider tracks your specific timeline at every check-in.

  1. Weeks 1–2

Starting dose · 0.25 mg weekly

Your provider starts low (0.25 mg weekly) so your body adjusts. Many patients describe early appetite changes; mild nausea is the most common side effect and usually resolves.

  2. Week 4

    First titration step

If the starting dose is well-tolerated, your provider may step you up. A check-in confirms how your body responds.

  3. Week 12

    Full program rhythm

By three months, many patients have settled into a stable dose with their provider. Your provider reviews progress, side effects, and labs.

  4. Week 24

    Outcomes review

Around six months your provider does a full outcomes review. Some patients move to a lower-dose maintenance phase; others continue on the active program.

The pattern above is what patients commonly describe. It is not a guarantee of outcome. Your provider tailors the plan to your specific metabolic profile, labs, and goals.

Supervised, titrated, adjusted to you.

Your provider starts you at a low dose and increases it gradually, reviewing how you respond at every check-in. Compounded semaglutide is prepared per-patient by a state-licensed 503A pharmacy. Individual results vary — your plan is built around your biology, under medical supervision.

Frequently asked questions. Clear answers.

Three topics, in plain language. If you do not see your question, the free consultation is the place to ask it.

What is compounded semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. A compounded preparation is one prepared by a state-licensed compounding pharmacy on a per-prescription basis. NuHealth’s compounded semaglutide is prepared by our 503A pharmacy partner when your provider determines a personalized formulation is appropriate for your situation. It is not FDA-approved as a finished drug product.

How long does it take to notice changes?

Many patients describe noticing appetite changes within the first 1–2 weeks. Measurable changes typically appear later. Your provider tracks your specific timeline at every check-in. Individual response varies.

What if I miss a dose?

If you remember within 5 days of your scheduled dose, take it as soon as you remember and continue your normal schedule. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and continue with your next scheduled one. Don’t double up. If you have questions about dosing, message your provider.

What does NuHealth’s program cost?

$125/month. The monthly price includes the medication (when prescribed), provider check-ins, lab orders, dose titration, and direct provider messaging. The 20-minute provider consultation is free. NuHealth does not bill insurance.

My insurance coverage changed — can NuHealth help?

NuHealth is a cash-pay model, so coverage changes do not affect your eligibility or pricing here. Your provider’s decision to recommend a personalized program is based on your medical history, not your insurance status. Bring any questions about your previous treatment to your consultation.

Is compounded semaglutide the same as Wegovy or Ozempic?

No. NuHealth’s compounded semaglutide is not Wegovy® or Ozempic®. Those are FDA-approved finished drug products manufactured and tested by Novo Nordisk. NuHealth’s compounded semaglutide is prepared by a state-licensed 503A compounding pharmacy on a per-prescription basis and is not FDA-approved as a finished drug product. Clinical-trial outcomes from FDA-approved branded products do not transfer to compounded preparations. Your provider will explain the distinction during your consultation.

Do I have to inject myself?

Yes — semaglutide is a subcutaneous injection, given once a week. The needles are very fine (similar to insulin pens). Your provider walks you through the technique at your first appointment.

What happens if I stop?

Many patients regain some weight when they stop. Your provider will work with you on a tapering plan if you decide to discontinue. Some patients move to a lower-dose maintenance schedule with their provider; others step down over months as lifestyle changes take hold. The plan is individualized.

From a patient

“I had tried every diet. Nothing stuck until this — and it’s not about willpower, it’s about biology finally cooperating.”
